Questions and answers about internet card payment

CARD ACCEPTANCE

What types of cards can I pay with?
With VISA and Mastercard embossed cards, respectively. with some VISA Electron cards. The possibility to use VISA Electron cards on the Internet depends on the bank issuing the card. The VISA Electron type bank card issued by CIB can be used for online purchases.

Which banks' cards are suitable for online payments?
With all VISA and Mastercard / Maestro cards that have been authorized for internet payment by the card issuing bank, as well as web cards specifically designed for internet use.

Is it possible to pay with shopping cards?
Points collection cards issued by merchants / service providers with loyalty points cannot be paid for online.

Is it possible to pay with co-branded cards?
It is possible to pay with any co-branded card that is a MasterCard or VISA based card suitable for online payment.

PAYMENT PROCESS

How does the online bank background payment process work?
The customer initiates the payment on the website of the merchant / service provider after choosing the bank card payment method, as a result of which he is transferred to the payment page of the Bank with a secure communication channel. To make a payment, you must provide your card number, expiration date, and the 3-digit verification code on the signature strip on the back of the card. You initiate the transaction, from then on the card goes through real-time authorization, within the framework of which the authenticity, coverage and purchase limit of the card data are checked. If all the data is sufficient to continue the transaction, the amount to be paid will be blocked on your card by the account holder's (card issuer's) bank. The amount will be debited (deducted) within a few days, depending on the bank holding the account.

How is internet card shopping different from traditional shopping?
We distinguish between Card Present and Card not Present transactions. The Card Present transaction is done using a POS terminal device. After removing the card and entering the PIN code, the terminal contacts the cardholder's bank, through the authorization center and, depending on the type of card and the card issuer, via the VISA or MasterCard network. This is where the validity and coverage check (authorization) takes place. Going back on the former route, the POS terminal (or the merchant) receives the approval or rejection. The buyer signs the receipt. A Card not Present is a transaction in which the credit card is not physically present. This includes transactions by letter, telephone or electronic means (Internet), for which the customer (cardholder) initiates the transaction by entering the card data requested on a secure (256-bit encrypted) payment page. You will receive a so-called license number, which is the same as the number on the paper-based receipt.

What does the reservation mean?
The transaction is immediately followed by a reservation (blocking) when the bank becomes aware of it, as the actual debit must first receive the official data, which takes a few days and below which the purchased amount can be spent again. Therefore, with the reservation, the money bought or withdrawn is separated and placed under a reservation. The booked amount belongs to the account balance, ie it bears interest, but once again it cannot be spent. The reservation provides for the rejection of transactions that are no longer covered, although the account balance would in principle still allow for this.

FAILED PAYMENTS AND ACTIONS

In what cases can a transaction fail?
Usually a payment order not accepted by the card issuing bank (ie where the customer received the card); but in the case of the use of a bank card, this may also be due to the fact that due to a telecommunication or IT error, the request for authorization does not reach the card issuing bank.

Card error

  • The card is not suitable for online payments.
  • The use of the card on the Internet is prohibited by the bank holding the account.
  • Card use is prohibited.
  • The card details (card number, expiration date, code on the signature strip) were entered incorrectly.
  • The card has expired.

Account type error

  • There is no collateral to complete the transaction.
  • The transaction amount exceeds the card purchase limit.

Connection error

  • The line may have been broken during the transaction. Please try again.
  • The transaction failed due to a timeout. Please try again.

Technical error

  • If you did not return from the payment side to the merchant / service provider side, the transaction will fail.
  • If you have returned from the payment page, but the browser returns to the payment page using "back", "reload" or "refresh", your transaction will be automatically rejected for security reasons.

What to do if the payment procedure fails?
In each case, a transaction ID is generated from the transaction, which we recommend to record. If a transaction is declined by the bank during the payment attempt, please contact your account-holding bank.

Why contact the account-holding bank in case of payment failure?
During the card verification, the account-holding (card-issuing) bank notifies the bank (accepting) the bank collecting the amount whether the transaction can be performed. The accepting bank may not disclose confidential information to a customer of another bank, only the bank identifying the cardholder has the right to do so.

However, what does it mean if I received an SMS from my bank to book / block the amount, but the merchant / service provider indicates that the payment failed?
This phenomenon may occur if the card has been verified on the payment page, but you have not returned to the merchant / service provider's website. In this case, the transaction is considered incomplete, so it is automatically considered unsuccessful. In this case, the amount will not be charged to your card, the reservation will be canceled.
